20100621 Tyndall In the Air

Contract Training Flight Services

Air 1st has been providing contracted training flight services for the US Air Force at Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Florida since 1998, operating and maintaining a fleet of nine MU-2s, flying over 4200 hours per year.

Tyndall Operation

Aircraft:  The Mitsubishi MU-2 has been the aircraft used for the US Air Force Contract at Tyndall AFB since 1987, not only because it meets or exceeds all of the contract parameters, but also due to its structural integrity, reliability, and operational cost efficiency. Air 1st is currently flying nine MU-2B-25/26 (K and M) models, which are in the process of being converted to dash 10 engines.

Pilots:  Air 1st MU-2s are operated by professional pilots with former military fighter experience.  

Maintenance & Inspection: All routine airframe and engine inspections are performed by Air 1st maintenance at Tyndall AFB or at Carolina Turbine Support in Aiken, SC. All engine work is performed  according to manufacturer's recommended programs at factory authorized maintenance facilities.
